The biggest "copperhead" you'll ever see :)

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I have been around Copperheads most of my life. And I will bet money that
that is not a Copperhead. Most Copperheads are about 2 to 2 1/2 feet if that much.
This is a Diamond Back rattle snake!

This is a local news story from yesterday. "This morning one of our oficers (sic) killed this copperhead as it came out of the sewer in front of the courthouse. Please avoid the sewers as we think there is (sic) more snakes in them."

The ignorance is strong with this one :)

EDIT: Oops, I can't believe I forgot the link

Cholo,
I am sure it is as obvious to you as to me, that is an Eastern Diamond Back
Rattle snake.

Yes, Blackie you're correct.

The Copperheads I've come into contact with are wee little critters (in comparison to big rattlesnakes), who can at times have very aggressive attitudes. Let me add, I've had some pretty severe striking and some very unassertive behavior from these critters.

I have a friend struck by a Copperhead in the thumb.

He lost his thumb, to be replaced by one of toes. It works quite well, but is rather odd looking.

I've another friend struck by a Copperhead. Who drove him self quite calmly to the hospital. Announced his bite and the hospital staff seemed (he later told me - oh, he's a park ranger) to go into hyper drive. He laughingly asked why the all the frantic fuss. He was then advised he was going to be very, very sick from the snake bite. He then immediately went into projectile vomiting...but lost no parts.

Folks speak of Copperheads like their venom is rather minor...it isn't.

Oh, given my own State Park/National Park experience as one on staff, I know a lot of stories of venomous snake encounters...

Conservative,
Several years ago (more than I want to count), a friend of mine
went to an outdoor concert with her beau. It was a grass venue.
She sat down, leaned back and felt a prick on her hand. Held her
hand up, and a 6 inch Copperhead was attached to her hand between the
thumb and first finger. She wore a sling for about two weeks, but other
than that, Bless her heart, she was an ornery as ever. Never heard what happened
to the snake.
Heck of a lady.
