Tex Cobb on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson

Help Support Ruger Forum:

What a character he was/is. Saw that vid several times over the years, last about a year ago. Love hearing his Tx drawl and his straight shooting wisdom mixed with quick witted humor. Reminds me, been years since I've seen Raising Arizona, it's now back on my to watch again list.

He's a funny guy. Off wiki: "In January 2008, at age 57, Cobb graduated magna cum laude from Temple University with a bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management. He remarked that it was odd to hear the cheers of a packed arena without being in a boxing ring. "It was nice to have that opportunity to wear a robe, to step up there and not have to worry about bleeding", Cobb said.

I always enjoyed him in the POW film with Gene Hackman & a young Patrick Swazey. I recall a line; "That BS karate crap ain't gonna help you boy!"
(Probably not exactly the line but it was the gist of what he said.)

I watched the fight between him and Larry Holms.
He did take a beating , but never backed down.
Before the fight Randall Cob said ( not these exact words ) " I am a white boy and will look pretty beat up but , he will never knock me down ".
When they interviewed Larry Holmes later he said " I hit him harder than I have ever hit anyone in my life , and I could not knock him down.

My favorite character from Uncommon Valor was Fred Ward(RIP) as Wilkes the tunnel rat, especially when he ambushes and wipes out the entire team in mock combat:
