It appears that "low salaries" and "no benefits" are NOT the only reason the US can't compete with the Asian companies; it's the work ethic according to this NY Times article posted (in small part below). This was an interesting article that sheds some light on the subject of why we may lose our "world leader" status eventually. After returning to Arizona, Patz said, employees were expected to pitch in with work outside their job descriptions because construction of the facility was behind schedule.
