Before anyone frags me for thinking such a thought, hear me out....
I'm about to acquire a #1B in .243 that has some stock damage. I already own a 1V in .22-250 & have installed the Hicks unit & improved accuracy by at least 1/2" at 100yds. My 1V definitely had/has some barrel heating up/hand guard issues. The Hicks unit really helped, as well as re-crowning the barrel....previous owner really did a number on it. Now it shoots 1/2 - 3/4 moa with the right loads, although it will open up a bit when it gets too hot.
My question is this: has anyone tried one of the synthetic stocks available? I would think these would eliminate the forend issues. Also are there any laminates available? Someone should produce a synthetic with some sort of adjustable hanger unit built in (I want some royalties from that one if you do
. I realize either stock would really take away from the beauty of the rifle, but I just love to shoot mine & would sacrifice beauty for function.
