So what do you call a '41 Mag from 1966 (2nd year of production) that's been "transfer barred"? It's an OM that s been saved. Just call it a three screw?

In my experience the term "Flattop" is used to describe the 357 & 44 (non super) up until 1962/1963 when Ruger went to the protected sight version.
The new models above, technically are flattops, but copies of the originals.

Chinook3,
I would add to my quote in this post, that in 62/63 when the "original" flattops were replaced by the "protected sight" version, they were/are now referred to as "old models"
(still 3 screws, but not flattops) until 1973 when the "new models" came out with TWO screws, and the safety bar conversion.

So, agree with hitman, converted old model.
Hope this helps.

Keep asking !!

Cheers,

Well JAYDAWG if you are like me,, reading can be a challenge. Just look at the pictures all over this forum of the New Models,, and you will see the 2 pins and they aren't slotted. Pictures are easier to understand,,, ! :D

Contender is right UNTIL you find a custom new model two pin gun the the gunsmith slotted the heads of the pins to look like screws and even more confusing, if they installed a bolt bearing block that is held in place by a screw!😄 Then it really gets the casual observer going!
