From what I've read hereabouts, and other sources, the Brill design holster was sort of created for Texas Rangers for urban carry and as dubbed by them as their "Sunday Holster." Here is a rendition of a Brill type holster, by Doc Barranti:

I've dubbed this holster as my "Sunday Holster" and do use it for Sunday wear. It's by Doc Barranti also. It is made to my specifications, based on his No. 1 Shuck, with the addition of the cuff from his Ethan Edwards model. Suits me just fine.

I might note that the belt loop allows use on a 2 1/2" wide cartridge belt, I wear it on an 1 1/2" pants belt, also by the Doc. This does allow the holster to ride up when I'm seated and be a little more comfortable. The Brill style is a trifle long and pokes the seat when I'm sitting, as driving.
