I just bought a Ruger 77 RSI 250 Savage (tang safety). The metal is in great shape but the wood has some marks on it. Most would clean up pretty good with a refinish. I have refinished many rifles using Watco Oil or tung oil finish. I'm looking for something that will give the Ruger an original look. Anyone have in suggestions?

Instead of trying to spot-finish, it's almost always a better deal to strip and refinish the whole stock. Cover the checkering with masking tape trimmed to the border of the checkering, and finish the checkering by removing the tape only on the last coat.

You're on the right track with tung oil..... many coats with a rubdown with 000 steel wool between coats. Either gloss or satin tung oil - your choice. For something in between, finish with gloss and rub down with rottenstone (powdered pumice) after the last coat.
