Died yesterday at the age of 76 and defied the odds by living his whole adult life with ALS.

Also, of course, the most noteworthy physicist since Einstein.

Goodbye Mr. Hawking.

I believe a high IQ does not make a person more able to see or hear God. God reaches out in various ways...most end-up rejecting.

I really enjoyed his first book. He is to be admired for contributing so much even after being almost completely paralyzed.

Taking about Shelton Cooper; "The Big Bang Theory" seems to have a bit of a jink for older celebrities with Steven Hawking, Lenard Nimoy, Carrie Fisher, and Adam West all having passed on after appearing on the show.

The "Big Bang" is an interesting theory but a "theory" none the less. As far as we can tell the universe is infinite and expanding and into an infinite space. So why would the Big Bang be the beginning of time when the concept of "time" does not exist in the realm of infinity (no beginning and no end)? Makes no sense to me but I'm just a knuckle dragger from fly over country. The only theory that is infinite and has no beginning and no end is the concept of God which makes more sense than the Big Bang Theory.

I hope the jinx has ended - would love to see more of Bob Newhart.......

He was not as smart as people think.

And neither are the hypocrites here that feel they have the right to judge the man for his religious beliefs. Or lack thereof..

They are not supposed to judge people. According to their own b.s. they spout. But seem to feel so high and mighty and better than the great unwashed..

If these people have nothing nice to say about the man, than they shouldn't speak at all.. Of course, at their age, they should know better..

And then people wonder why people like me hate what they represent about religion. Hence why I have no sympathy for certain things that happen in society nowadays..

Says the local theoretical physicist on a gun forum................

LOL!
Mr. Hawking was one of the greatest minds of this time. He also knew how to best discuss complex theory with non-complex people, worldwide.
His book A Brief History of Time was one of the most informative I have ever read. Of course, even a brief perusal of theoretical physics is work & a topic most people think they don't need to (better) understand. That is quite saddening in itself.

BTW - The Big Bang Theory (tv show) is a script. A work of entertainment & marketing. For those who confuse it with real life...

He left a dent in this world, and he will be remembered well. -THAT is God smiling down. 8)

Rendering judgment and having an opinion are two different things.

Bologna. That's semantics and you know it.. The opinion "is" a judgement..

If people have nothing nice to say about the man, they should not say anything at all.. keep the religious opinions to themselves.

Okay, here`s probably the first barrage. The man was a ADMITTED atheist. There is NO judgement of that on anyone's part here. I doubt anyone who is a closet christian would claim to being a atheist. Kind of like me saying here after all my posts, "I fooled all of you! I really have been a democrat all along!"
Yes, all us Christians live by faith. I believe it`s the first requirement of salvation. You either believe or you don't. Now if I claim Christianity and live by it`s rules, die and find out I was wrong and there is no God or afterlife, what have I lost? But if I am right and Hawking and/or other atheists`s die, and too late find out they were/are wrong, big difference!
Whether some, none or all of Hawkings theory's are right OR wrong, what real difference has all his knowledge changed ANYONE`S life on this planet? Christians living by christian principals I believe has changed most things in this world and likely life would be lived under the rule of demon possessed dictators such as like Hitler and other despots. The entire world would be like it is now in North Korea or in the Mideast where Christianity isn't permitted.
