Local shop hereabouts has a Stainless Bearcat with an aluminum ejector rod housing. All the other Stainless Bearcats I've seen, have had a Stainless ejector rod housing. The shop owner sez, "it's a new gun, it came that way from the factory", and yes, he's got the box... It's looks are totally UN-attractive!! Did Ruger run outta the Stainless ejector rod housings, OR WHAT??? :?:

All stainless Bearcats have the aluminum ejector rod housing, and the consensus is, they are rather unattractive.

I did see one, recently, where the factory process had been removed from the ERH, and the "white" aluminum was a much closer match to stainless, than the original process.

WAYNO.

when i first saw it on my SS Bearcat i was stunned. can't be!

so i called ruger to see if that was indeed a original factory installed part. it sure was.

so i then asked if i could buy a stainless housing. nope, they don't make them.

such a nice gun all-stainless gun with this one aluminum exception. why would they do that???

I bought a consecutive pair of them when they first came out. I shore thought THAT PAIR had Stainless ejector rod housings... If they had aluminum ejector rod housings, I'm GLAD I got rid of them, but I don't think they did.

I've NEVER heard of a Factory Stainless Steel ejector housing for the Bearcat/Super Bearcat/New Bearcat series. A early OM Bearcat steel housing could probably be "plated/coated" to look pretty good......

You can nickel plate the aluminum and keep the weight savings as well - or hard chrome over the nickel plate.

I wouldn't mind finding a an alloy cylinder/frame OM bearcat and adding a NM alloy ERH and plating the whole thing except you guys would likely tar and feather me for wrecking an OM bearcat like that...

Aggie, that would probably depend on the condition of the gun to begin with.

If it were a "beater" with major cosmetic issues, your re-vamping really wouldn't hurt much, assuming it wasn't some extremely rare variation.

I never even noticed it on mine. I'll have to look when I get home. I guess mine has a pretty good match. haha
