I have a 7.5" 44mag SRH.

I am putting a scope on it. I want to take the entire front sight off the barrel. I can get the orange ramp sight off it but can not figure how to take the base peice off?

Help?
Thanks,
MJO

If you are using Ruger rings for the scope mount then there is no real reason for you to remove the iron sights.I have the same revolver and I do not see sights in my scope if that is your concern.Using Ruger rings you will not lose zero when you remove and replace the scope.I like being able to remove the scope and shoot iron sights at times.

Thanks Stan,

I am wanting to remove the whole thing for two reasons.
I just want a cleaner look.
I am hoping that removing even a few ounces from the front of the gun will help in balancing, With my scope set up the gun is very front heavy.

Thanks,
MJO

I am pretty sure that sight is soldered on. If you remove it, there will be a small hole left in the barrel from the alignment dowel Ruger uses to locate the sight.
