SR9c locking open

I purchased the SR9c on July 8th. I fired 34 rounds of 115g target ammo through it than it started locking open instead of picking up the next round. I cleaned it, thinking it was dirty ammo, and tried again. This time it would lock open after every shot. Once I eject the clip, close the slide and reload it it will fire, one shot. I took it back to the dealer. They wouldn't touch it because it would void the warranty. I called Ruger. They told me to take it to the dealer and have their certified gunsmith repair it. Warranty would NOT be void. Took it back to the dealer, they agreed to do the repair at no charge. I picked it up yesterday. I fired 5 rounds through it and it started doing the same thing. I switched to the ammo I picked up from the dealer, now it is only firing one shot again.
I went with Ruger because of the reputation for reliable guns. Have to say, I DO NOT trust my life to this gun. I bought it as my CCW gun. Talking it back to dealer today. I will probably have a fight on my hands, but I do not want this gun back! I would never be able to trust my life to it.
Has anyone else had this problem with the SR9c? Will Ruger replace the gun?

Irish Rose I hope I don't offend you. What kind of grip are you using? Is there any possibility you could be bumping the slide stop with your thumb while shooting? I ask this because I have had it happen to me while shooting a subcompact pistol with a 2 hand hold that I wasn't used to. I had change my grip a little with that particular gun.

Why take it to the dealer, call Ruger, ask for a UPS/FedEx call tag and send it "home" for repair. Ruger will take care of you. Don

I don't want a repair, I want a different gun or refund. I has already been repaired once.

I thought it was something I was doing, I have had several people shoot it with the same results.

Unless the gun is unrepairable ... that's not gonna happen

Have you tried using different factory ammo and one that is heavier than 115 gr.?I would try something in the 124Gr maybe.

Tried Winchester, Lawman & Federal. Same results. Just got the gun back from the dealer, again. They replaced the slide lock pin. I'll try it and see. I really hope that fixes the problem. I do like the gun. The grip is perfect for me, the kick minimal, the accuracy is great. Finding ammo for a 9 mm in my area is hard. If I can find the 124gr, I will give it a try. Thanks.

115 grain should work just fine in the SR9c. I ran a bunch through mine prior to getting into reloading. The only problems I had were a couple of stovepipes from limp wristing the first box through it.

GREAT NEWS! 70 rounds and no lock opens! This is what I expected when I purchased a Ruger. The slide was always hard to pull back. I thought I just needed to work on arm strength, but since the slide lock pin was replaced, I have no problem with the pull. Now I feel I can trust this gun. And after 15 years, I can still put 7 out of ten shots on a 3 inch circle :)

Good news. Hopefully you will be able to regain confidence in your weapon. Look on it like your car. Would you loose confidence in your ability to stop if you had brake problems, then had them repaired? You might be a little nervous when you first start driving it after repair, but should regain confidence after a short time.

I'm thinking a couple hundred rounds should restore that confidence.

My SR9c has been great. I have probably a couple thousand rounds through it now. Been a great performer, easy to carry, great ergonomics, fun to take to the range.

I've seen 3 or 4 cases reported on various forums in the past couple weeks of this exact issue. I will definitely be keeping an eye on the slide lock spring on mine.

I just picked mine up late week; after the first mag it developed the same issue. I called Ruger; their customer service is great. It is on a next-day air pre paid ticket to Prescott, Arizona. They said it would be back in 5 days and are sending an extra 17-round mag for my troubles. Hopefully it is fixed right.
BTW I cleaned it thoroughly before the first time I shot and when it started doing this, lubed it well, too. The first 10 rounds went off without a hitch, the last 90 not so much. Fingers crossed and good luck to all.

Now I don't feel so bad. Guy at the gun shop treated me like it was a problem because I was a woman. (His boss got an earful from me!) really talked down to me. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm glad others are having the same issue with their SR9c.

Maybe it is because your a woman and then again maybe not. I'm male and have been talked down to on many occasions by gun shop staff. Its something I've seen fairly often. I'm not sure why but the snobbish know it all attitude seems to be more accepted in this section of retail where it really shouldn't be. I think its great that you stood up to it though.

Just saying we men see it too. For me its been 50/50 getting a knowledgeable, courteous employee. I've gotten pretty good though, I can spot the " gun tude" pretty quickly now. And if I'm dealing with one of them, I complete the conversation but always make a note to come back later in hopes of getting someone else to actually buy.

A precision instrument- sometimes things need adjusting or something. I would't trust MY life to anything BUT my 9c now. Couple of hiccups at first, but several thousand rounds now and nothing EVER happens. Same with my SR9- bedside gun- have a TLR-4 on it and it's great, too.
