I got a new SR1911 CMD yesterday and went to the range today to break it in with 250 rounds. When I was done, I noticed the wood grips were a little loose. Is there a simple fix or is this a common issue with 1911? This is my first 1911 and I hope I don't have to tighten the screw after each range visit.

Tighten em down. If they come loose again .... Loctite.

The same thing happened with my CMD. I cleaned it, put the grips back on, and took it out to break it in with about 150 rounds. The grip screws had come loose as well as 2 of the frame studs. I took a grip screw to Ace Hardware and got some tiny O rings. I removed the 4 studs, cleaned the holes, and put some blue threadlocker on them and tightened them down good. O rings went on the screws and I havn't had a problem since.

Sounds like a workable solution !

Looks like I'll be getting some O rings after a good cleaning. Thanks for the advice.

Same issue with my grips. This happens sometimes when the wood around the screw hole has been compressed too much. I do not recommend using loctite only because you don't know how well the the grip screw bushings are staked on. Best solution is to just go the O ring route. If you happen to have any aquarium tubing laying around, you can simply slice a few rings from it. These should work great.

The O-Rings are the way to go. I place #60 O-Rings on my SR-1911 over a year ago and have not had an issue since.

Nearly every 1911 I have had had loose bushings/screws when new (Colt and Ruger). Loctite (not the permanent type) on the bushings and just firmly tightening the screws has always worked for me.
I don't think the Colt or Ruger bushings are are staked in.
You may also want to check the rear sight screw and put a little Loctite on it. It has been loose on several.
I have just started Locktiting both when I do the first cleanup. At the same time I put in the Allen type gripscrews, so no more screwdriver slips from old shaky hands.

I've been shooting Colt and Springfield 1911's for 30+ years and have never experienced this ..... Ever ..... Honestly .....

Buy the best and this kind of stuff doesn't even come up.

Loctite, fingernail polish, linseed oil, testor's Model Paint etc. all have worked for me. Rod

I replace the hex screws on my Rugers with slotted screws from Midway or Brownell's. It makes them a bit easier to snug down when the need arises. Over-tightening grip screws can result in pulling out the grip bushings and possibly stripping them, resulting in a trip to the gunsmith. I learned this lesson the hard way, many years ago. I have tried the O-rings on other 1911's but found the screws weren't long enough to make a secure purchase to the bushings.

I second the 60 o ring advice. It solved the problem for me. Find them at any hardware store. Got mine at Home Depot in the plumbing section.
