This is an early model BKH4 flattop Blackhawk in .44 Magnum with the only barrel length offered at the time, 6.5". Serial number puts it at 1958 production. The revolver is in nice mechanical condition with a good bore and clean chambers. There is a fair amount of holster wear evident at both sides of the muzzle, the steel ERH, and high points of the cylinder. And a moderate cylinder line. At some point, the original aluminum XR3 grip frame was changed out to a steel Super Blackhawk dragoon grip frame (the Super came out in 1959). The grip frame appears to have been case colored (EDIT: A member suggested that the grip frame may have been poorly cold blued instead of case colored). It currently sports some mediocre New Model grips with the mid-1970's medallions that were prone to tarnishing. Because the grip contour of the dragoon grip frame has not changed in 61 years, the market for better looking grips is wide open, either factory or aftermarket. Or you could return it to it's original configuration with a XR3 grip frame and grips. Other than the grip frame and grips, the configuration appears original for a Type 2 flattop with the non-collared base pin, capped base pin latch nut, offset slot steel ERH, and dimpled ER button.
