I got quite lucky with this hidden gem. When I first picked up this 4 5/8" barreled revolver from a pawn shop, it was a filthy, grimy, seemingly ol' beater that looked like it must have been there since the dawn of time, and used as a pick and shovel (if not a hammer too) every day since then! But it was a "flattop", and even without box, ready identification or papers, I thought (or at least hoped) it might be able to be reworked into something usable (and not just end up a rusty lemon!). So while I (perhaps blasphemously) prefer New Models myself, also enjoy a good project and so took the plunge.

But then after an eon of cleaning and picking and swabbing, a beautiful thing emerged! The serial, once uncovered, revealed 5 digits (# 19185) making it, I believe, an early 1959 model. And aside from a couple very minor chips/wear in the aluminum grip frame, it is in absolutely excellent condition with nary a mark on it. Boy was I surprised!

To top it off, what I first thought was minor rust speckling, on closer review appears to be part of the actual finish. When the gun was originally blued, my best guess is that either through metal impurities or perhaps through some hotter "plum blue" salts (as are commonly used and seen on what I also undertand is slightly different metal of the loading gate) that spilled over somehow on the frame, created a slight "plumb splash" on the lower frame sides (near the serial and caliber stamps) and is seen when held in just the right light (images don't really catch it nor do the finish justice). I have certainly never seen the like, though admittedly, I am fairly inexperienced still.

Thankx! The calendar was my Great Grandmother's from the now historic (yet still running!) local drug store. It seemed quite fitting and I figure I'd probably included it as a bit of the story of ownership/iconography with the gun.
