Hello,
I have a SP101 that I really like. I think I would like a hammerless design - like no spur to hang up on the draw. But, I don't want to cut the spur off of mine. I want to be able to revert back if I want to. Is it possible to buy a spurless hammer and install it? Who sells the part? Will it mostly drop in?

Thanks,
HH

Numrich Corp. has parts they take off of guns. On such is the spurless hammer (they also have spurred) at:

https://www.gunpartscorp.com/products/289400

Right now it is out of stock but by keep checking one will turn up sooner or later. Be patient. I did just what you mentioned for my SP. You might also try Gunbroker, Ebay, and some of the other boards.

If you want a spurless hammer I'd take RoninPA's offer. You can watch Numerich arms for the next year and won't see a hammer. Ruger doesn't want them getting out, and they call the shots. Otherwise you are looking at Gunbroker and you can buy several pieces to go with the hammer and pay a big price. That's where a lot of people get their parts. That or ebay and you better be consistent in keeping an eye out, to HAPPEN to find what you are looking for.

I checked my SP101 parts and I do have one spurless hammer. It will drop in with no gunsmithing needed. Send me a PM if you are interested and we'll go from there.

I want to purchase the spurless hammer if the other guy doesn't want it. Let me know the price and I'm ready!
Thank you,
Craig

So I bought the hammer from Ron. It is nice to be able to draw from a pocket without hanging up. The install is easy, just part of disassembling it. Trigger pull seems just as nice as before. It does keep the single action notch but is tricky to cock it. I still have my old hammer so if I ever want to convert back to the spur I can. What's not to like about it..... Now I need to order a good belt holster. I think this handgun is going to play a big role this summer.

A bit of info on the pocket carry.... The SP101 is a bit heavy for pocket but I usually only carry this way because it is easy to leave it in my car when I go places I can't have it. Usually the SP is on my belt or maybe IWB. I like that it conceals pretty well, but is in a major caliber.

Thanks to all for the input!!

Has anyone bobbed a hammer and had it look nice?
I've done a Speed Six, a 3in GP100 and a Service Six.
Cut with cut off air tool or hacksaw, grinder, file and stone.

I have done several also. Made an outline of what I wanted it to look like with a fine tip black marker then used a Dremel cut off wheel to take the majority off, followed with Dremel sanding drums (large to small, coarse to fine) to finish shaping and then finished with automotive sand paper to smooth everything. Then used the Dremel with the polishing tips to get it to the look I wanted. Even working slowly probably took less than 30 minutes to do.

I used to shoot IDPA and IPSC in Las Cruces, NM. We had a number of El Paso PD, Border Patrol, and Treasury Agents that shot matches. They also suggested DAO revolver for "self-defense" NMPD had already gone to pistol.

Less chance of AD under stress. I have a Taurus 605 2.5" which works well. I only practice DAO with it and with 4" SP101. Probably should have gotten GP100.

Maybe I will win Powerball and buy a pair of Manurhin MR73s.

The Taurus. 605 is a small and light revolver with a smooth action after quite a few thousand Dey fires. It works nicely with 110 grain. Stings a bit with 125 and do not think I would try 158 grain.

I was doing some Jeff Cooper exercises (Dozier Drill at 10 m) a few years ago with one of my best friends (now deceased). I found I shot better with .357 than I did .38 Special. I took deliberate aim instead of forcing speed: all upper level A's and no C'abut a bit slower. Friend was an orthopedic surgeon so we aimed at top half of A: sternum and above. We only counted those as real As

Finally got around to submitting a concealed carry after 15 years. Fingerprinted at Sheriff's Department this morning

We were full time RVers with mailbox residence in SD and that was insufficient for a CCL.

Crime rates in our town are 50% of rest of country and for Colorado itself. We have four fierce guard ducks in backyard. No one goes that way unnoticed: squirrels, bunnies, Blue Jays.

Changed 2032 batteries in Crimson Trace of Taurus 605 after many years. Did not work. Followed CT video "turn on master switch stupid!"

Diligentia, Vis, Veritas

Keep calm and fix bayonet!
