I'm ready to put laser grips on my SP...I only shoot 38s through it and only allowed to carry +p gold dots...so i"m not sure it I need the more expensive new model with the rubber overmold..I would imagine the older style hard plastic would be better for CCW as there is no rubber for my clothes to stick to....you guys that have the older model, your imput is very welcome...

I have owned both the older hard plastic version and the newer rubber overmold version. I feel very strongly that the rubber overmold version is much better.

The hard plastic simply does not provide sufficient traction for a good consistent grip from shot to shot. That is to say, the weapon's recoil can cause the gun to move in your hand. This is not good for accuracy or for the speed of you follow up shots.

Note that I shot .357 mag exclusively so there was more recoil to contend with but .38 +P is stout enough to cause the same problems.

The rubber overmold grips provide ample purchase and my hand remains in place from shot to shot. Also, for me, the rubber overmold grips seem to absord some of the felt recoil and transmit less of it to my hand/arm.

Finally, I usually carry my SP101 in a Galco horsehide front pocket holster and sometimes in a weak side IWB holster. Regardless of where I carry it, I have experienced zero problems with the rubber grip catching on clothing or making it difficult to draw from the pocket.

I believe the rubber overmold grip is definetly worth the higher price and I would never go back to the plastic version.

I have the "old" hard CTC's on my SP. I like them but would prefer the new Rubber style. I just like a rubber grip better. Might put them up for Auction and get the rubber ones myself.

Have had the stock Crimson Trace grips from Ruger on a 2" SP101 for about a year. I find the grips to be very comfortable for anything but full magnums. They hurt your wrist but not your hand. I guess I have the soft as their pretty soft and grippy to the hand with just enough checkering to hold on to. I've not noticed any problems sticking to clothes but do not pocket carry.

Once you get them sighted in its kind of fun at the range to shoot center out of a target without bringing up to eye level. The snubnose with CT grips is much more accurate than I am. They really show you how much your moving POA.

Hey 5shot,
Back in August you commented on your SP101 and the newer over mold rubber CT laser grips (I presume its what they now call model #LG 303?) - - your satisfaction compared to the grip with less rubber (most likely model 111). I found your posting most helpful, and thank you.

I have a SP 101, 3", 357 magnum on which I have great rubber Hogue grips, which I put on to replace the standard factory synthetic grip. My wife and I have found this Hogue grip fantastic - - great cushioning recoil hit to hands with some of the more violent +P and 357 rounds. We are now considering that Model LG-303 CT overmold rubber grip you spoke of, and was wondering if by put that on in place of our cool Hogue grip would render a set-back or improvement regarding recoil protection.

Perhaps you have that comparison experience, also?
Thanks a bunch.

I have the hard grips on mine and haven't had any problems with them, but I bought a set for my girlfriend. Even though she'd shot mine, she didn't complain till AFTER I bought a set for hers. I'll probably sell her's and either go back to the stock grips or something else.

diyj - thanks much your input.
After you found the harder grip CT laser grips (I think thats their model # 111, yes or no?) on the SP101 - were too much for your lady friend and so you took them off - - have you since tried her out with the softer rubber overmold (I think that's CT grip model # 303?) to see how those felt to her?

2nd item > you said when you removed the hard laser grips on her gun you said >"I may go back to the stock grips." That tells me that the stock grips for the SP 101, which are 100% plastic-hard you found those actually easier on her hand than the CT harder laser grip. Did I get that right?

My wife has the hogue grips on her SP 101 and is happy with near nil recoil hit to hands - - that's why I am trying to be careful before I put a laser grip of any model on her gun.
thanks a bunch for your helpful input.

The stock grip is larger and shapped differently than the hard Crimson Trace grip. Due to the weather she really hasn't had a chance to shoot it with the stock grip. I'm going to try that first before buying any other grips for her.
