I was out at the range the other day and noticed my rear sight pin floating out. I pushed it back in with finger. I want to ping the pin on the ends so it doesn't float out.

The interesting thing I found was the play of the rear sight from side to side. This explains why sometimes my shots move to one direction or the other from time to time. I looked at my girlfriends and it had the same issue.

anyone have a suggestion for a low labor intensive fix?

Answered this on another forum you posted it on.

There may be other responses with more convoluted methods, but the absolute easiest way is wait till it happens again, tap the pin sideways enough to bend it slightly, tap it back into its channel in the frame.

Can be easily done with a small hammer or a screwdriver handle, no scratch on the frame, nothing needs to be peened, no glue, no mess.

Do it without removing the pin from the frame.
If you don't want to wait till it happens again, poke the pin out either side of the frame far enough to tap it/bend it, tap it back in.

Doesn't have to be bent much at all.

My oldest Ruger "repair" this way has held for over 30 years.

I have had a few folks remove "side to side" slop in a rear sight assy by getting some RC model washer/shims to install.
Most adjustable rear sight assy's have spring tension to keep it from moving. But if you have some play in it. tiny shims/washers could remove it. (Fix this before you fix the walking pin.)

I had the same problem with my GP100. First I found the small spring that keeps the sight blade tension was misaligned. Second the pin kept drifting out under recoil. I Just put some blue lock-tite on each end of the pin. I've fired 300 rounds since without a problem.

thanks contender I will check my assemblies to see if anything has come loose and then go from there.
Deadeye the rear sight blade is fine it the entire assembly that actually has side to side play. Its almost like the milled area where the sight assembly sits is much wider than the assembly. My six's have tighter tolerance.

Can't help you on side to side sight play, I've not encountered that on any of the 20 or so Ruger revolvers I've owned or worked with over the years.

Might call Ruger on it.
