I have reloaded about 2000 rounds on my uncle's RCBS piggy back and I have really enjoyed the activity. So much so that my father and I decided to go half and half on a Hornady LocknLoad AP press. One of the cool things about the Hornady press is that they are having a promotion where you can get 1000 free bullets. Being the entrepreneurial type that I am, I have devised a plan and I wanted to get the forum's input. I have a gp100 and my dad has a 9mm. The only two types of bullets that we could actually reload are a standard Hornady 9mm FMJ and a 110 gr .357 XTP. I am perfectly content with shooting lead bullets and I think it would be a waste to just shoot off xtp's or hornady 9mm bullets for target practice. Of course, that is just my opinion and as we all know others have more expensive preferences. So my question to everyone is, which bullet type would offer me the best bang in terms of reselling and profit margin? I figure if I take a bullet type and sell it for less than it is retailing on, for example, Midway, than someone would definitely bite on it and both parties would win. My plan is to use the money I make to buy other necessary reloading components (books, dies, tumbler, ect). Here are the possibilities. (I know, they are the most obscure styles that Hornady makes. Probably why they are giving them away.) Suggested Retail price per 1000 is provided as a comparative reference. Obviously, I won't be selling them for those prices.

2266 22 CAL .224 55 GR SP W/C $182.67
2267 22 CAL .224 55 GR FMJ-BT W/C $182.67
2453 6MM .243 100 GR BTSP $273.33
2540 25 CAL .257 100 GR SP $297.00
2730 270 CAL .277 130 GR SP $295.17
2825 7MM .284 139 GR BTSP $321.50
3031 30 CAL .308 150 GR SP $303.33
3037 30 CAL .308 150 GR FMJ-BT $304.00
35557 9MM .355 115 GR FMJ RN ENC $212.33
35700 38 CAL .357 110 GR HP/XTP $218.67
40040 10MM .400 180 GR HP/XTP $272.83
44050 44 CAL .430 180 GR HP/XTP $293.50
45100 45 CAL .451 185 GR HP/XTP $290.00
45137 45 CAL .451 185 GR SWC TAR ENC $302.00

P.S. I don't actually have the bullets yet, so please don't send offers unless you are willing to wait a long while.

I hate to burst your bubble,,, but to sell reloads,,, you need a ATF reloders liscense,, and if you do go commercial,, be SURE to get good liability insurance.

Contender,
He is just talking about selling the bullets that come with the press, not reloads.
I agree I wouldn't use Hornady's for plinking, but have no idea how much you could sell them for.

Correct 45Colt, I am going to attempt to sell the bullets, not reloaded ammunition. I am trying to find out what the most popular bullet in the list is. For example, would .45 shooters actually use a 185 gr SWC TAR ENC or would this be a difficult bullet to find demand for?

The 30 Cal 150 FMJBT is still a perty-standard military bullet.
Back when I was doing gunshows they sold perty well but I aint sure how good the current market is.

Both the .30/150SP and the .270/130SP are popular hunting bullets.

Might be an OK market for the 9MM,.38, and .40 stuff that you got listed.

My guess is that the rest of it would be a hard sell.

If offered I would go for revolver bullets, either .357, .44, or .45 all XTP. Maybe 2 to 3 hundred.
