Yesterday I was out working and stopped for lunch at a fast food place. As I entered, I noticed a beat up Buick(?) sitting in one of the spots next to the building with a ratty looking young adult male in the passenger seat. Doper or drunk?? There's sort of alcove in the dining area that overlooks my preferred parking spot and has two chair tables that I normally use at this joint. I took my overpriced burger meal and sat down. Then the Buick began rumbling with that rhythmic thumpety bump music(?) crap and increased in volume to the point of obnoxious. I kept adjusting my hearing aids to stay below the pain threshold and just tried to finish and leave. In the meantime, a family group had occupied a 4 place table not far from my spot. I noticed the 'Mommy' rise and approach my spot and when she was 3-4 feet away, she announced "Would you PLEASE lower the volume on your headphones, the noise is disturbing". I turned and said "This is my phone headset and the noise isn't coming from me". She huffed and returned to her seat but then Mr. Mommy strutted over and said even louder "Your headphones are disturbing my wife, PLEASE LOWER THE VOLUME". I pointed outside toward the car from whence the sound emanated and said "Hey, go talk to that guy". At that moment a couple of construction workers 1/2 way across the room stood up and told Mr. Mommy the noise was coming from outside. He finally got the message. By the time I finished a city cop had showed up and seemed to be educating the occupant of the Buick on common courtesy(or maybe prepping him for a drug or alcohol check).
I don't know who to be aggravated with: the substance impaired dude or the folks who couldn't understand that the noise came from outside. Makes no diff, I'll probably not stop there for lunch again anyway. I've got about 3-4 weeks of work left and then I'm done with all the road time and fast food meals.
