Think you did very well. Nice looking bone handle and probably great carbon blade steel. Looks like an older model for sure but Germany makes great quality. Solingen is well known for knives. Think it stands for City Of Swords I read. Hold onto it.

I have one very similar to it that was given to me a few years ago. Very good steel, takes a good edge. Carbon steel, not stainless. They seem to have made a million of those I'd say 50s thru 70s, I've seen them in all kinds of blade designs. Most have the stag grip/leather spacer/dural butt cap. Many are stamped "Solingen Steel."

I had a similar looking one as a Boy Scout that saw a lot of use. A few years back I bought a cheap sheath to replace the original that fell apart. After leaving it in the new sheath for a couple of months I took it out to find the blade covered with rust. Trying to recondition and polish the blade is still on my to do list.

Wow looks like the same blade I owned back in the early 60s coach. Same handle and blade but mine was stamped P.I.C. and Solingen on the blade. Paid under $3 for it new back then! Maybe around 1961 I think. Notice yours says Edge Brand I can make out. Wish I still had it!

I notice the stamped name on most are near the top of the handle maybe mine is really old or newer mine just says solingen across the middle of the blade maybe it's a fake but I doubt that the leather sheath has made in Germany stamp on it

Solingen is a German City / area that is a knifemaking center. Made in Solingen was like saying Made in Sheffield for English knives.

The better knives are marked with a Trade name, Puma, Boker, Otter Messer, Richartz, Hen and Rooster, Hubertus etc. The lower end one ( but still usually good) are just marked Solingen, Solingen, Germany etc.
