Single-Six & Super Wrangler comparison

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I've even called Ruger to inquire about the grip frame screws between the Wrangler(s) and the Super Six. They said they won't work. WRONG!!!
The screws will interchange between the pistols (as long as it's the New Model SS). Only difference is the nicer torx screws the Wrangler's use, but they don't (nor can get) them in stainless.

Will the torx-head screws work in an Old Model as long as you get two of the shorter upper screws. The OM doesn't need the extended tip that's required on the New Models.

@Ale-8(1). Honestly don't know as I don't have an OM to compare components with as to length, size or thread count. Does the OM screws have angled-cut screw heads like the NM use? If so, that's good.

If your OM doesn't need the extra length, then cutting/filing down won't hurt anything, but doing anything with these small screws without a thread die or nut to clean up the threads will damage the already threaded holes in the gun, so there's that mistake to think about. The one upper screw is much longer than the other due to it needing to go into the hammer pin slot to hold it in place from slipping out the framework. It's already threadless within this area and cutting off this threadless length won't harm the screw what-so-ever.

If however you need 2 (two) screws in upper area of grip frame, why not just get a couple of the (rear) slightly shorter screws that are used in the underside of the grip frame? Unless they're too short to use?

If I were going to use them in an OM I'd just order two of the shorter torx upper screws and get rest as usual. I priced the screws from Ruger a while back and were told they sell for four bucks each. Kinda pricy but they sure look good and would be much easier to work with. ;)

I really don't want to take apart my unfired Wrangler or OMSS to check but it's supposed to be 19 degrees here tomorrow so maybe I'll see?

Probably not.

If you want to use the newer Torx screws from the Wrangler, then get screws off Ebay. Much cheaper than going new. I ordered the stainless screws as new due to nobody had all the screws together as a package for the Single Six in stock. It cost more, but I wanted the stainless look over the blacken'd torx for the duo-tone of stainless and black look I was going for with the parts I swapped out.

Ruger will send you parts not totaling more then $20 for free. So make two separate phone calls to order the torx screws.
I'm new here with owning SA's for less than a year. This info should be listed at top of gunsmith/maintenance (maybe all the pages) for others to see. While most all parts for a Ruger is more than $20, it's still valuable info for screws, springs and pins if Ruger honors this info.

All of these types of conversations are great. I'll be sitting in my recliner on a forum on my laptop and I will jump up to head to the basement to look at one of my gun boxes or guns to answer a question on the forum and my wife will say, "oh my God, what are you guys talking about now"? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Been there done that!!!
