just picked up a single six.

of course it came with two cylinders. 22lr and 22mag

the the mag cylinder has the 22mag engraved on it. But the two cylinders look and feel almost identical.

What is the main diffrence?

Other than the chamber size difference, you will notice that the .22 LR cylinder is fluted and the mag cylinder is not. I don't know if that's simply to distinguish the looks, or if it has to do with strengthening the mag cylinder.

Wobble, not always. I have a 3 screw and a '75 NM that both have fluted cylinders and no markings to distinguish them. You have to look at the rear of the cylinder to see the difference. I didn't check once and shot LR's thru the mag cylinder. Didn't take me long to see the errors of my ways...

Wobble:
Both cylinders on my 70's stainless 4 5/8" SS are fluted. Not marked either. Visually they are different in that the mag. cyl. charge holes are individually recessed where as the LR cyl. has the typical groove machined around the charge hole's circumference. My gun dates from 1974. Has the Ruger name/address on top between the sight and frame.

Interesting that the older cylinders were unmarked and both fluted, making them difficult to distinguish from each other. I'll take a wild guess and say that the more recent changes to marked and unfluted (for mag) are a result of complaints or problems from users of the older models.

Ah, but the .22 LR chambered cylinder has a "firing pin groove" whereas the .22 Magnum chambered cylinder does not.

Ruger didn't expound on these differences as well as they might have.
