Probably a dumb question but can I order the birdshead grip out of Midway then put it on the Single Six? I assume I have to have it blued, anymore ideas from you Ruger guys?

Yep, I did. It will take some filing, sanding, polishing and fitting. I got a SS one so did not need to blue it. It is on a 4 5/8" .22 Super Single Six. It makes a fun little field gun!

Here's a photo with big brother 45 Colt Vaquero.

Thanks, great pic, by the way! Just bought the Single Six, will pick it up this afternoon and maybe call Midway tomorrow. Just love the feel of the birdshead. Did you do the Vaquero too?

No, the Vaq Birdshead Sheriff's models came that way. Also a great woods gun, although I am really liking my Lipsey's 44 Specials for that these days, but it can work well for a CCW if you don't mind a single action.

I just sold my Cimmaron Thunderer in .45, loved it but no transfer bar so loaded 5 only. Think I will get a Vaq in .357 later(got tons of .38/.357 loaded up). All fun, huh?

I need to get some oxpho-blue from Brownells and touch up my bluing a little. other than that, the fitting was easy.

Wow, love the grips, where did you get them? Seems like some of us like the same theme.

A set of imitation stags I picked up off of ebay :) That is my 32 H&R mag and the birds head grip works great.

I also have the sheriff's model in 45 colt, bit it came that way :)

Another nice one! What kind of holsters do you favor for these beauties? That is a nice lookin one in the first pic, maybe an El Paso Saddlery.

I'm cheap, I make my own :)
I like the Tom Threepersons style like El Paso Saddlery in a cross draw. I also like wearing it strong side in a pancake style holster. The birds head and short barrel makes either one easy to pack.

Right, that's an El Paso "Duke" crossdraw (they appear to be calling it the #44 now). It's what I had with me that day, part of my CAS rig.

For field use I generally like an El Paso Tom Threepersons with a button strap.
