Did Ruger use a different metal as far as the cylinder in the 32 H&R and the 327 Federal magnum? Is there a difference in cylinder diameter? Wondering since the 327 is a 7 shot vs the 32 6 shot. I don't plan on trying to convert my 32's to 327. Just curious is all.

Honestly don't know the metal makeup of the cylinders you mention. However I'd probably expect it to be of gun metal strength of 4140 steel. If this steel, which has been used for decades can hold up to 30-06 barrel pressures and maybe even most magnums, it's more than strong enough to handle the calibers you mention. It's also readably available for less costs and easily machinable for the strength it offers along with capabilities of being easily coated with nitrite, salt bluing, parkarizing, cerekote and most any other protective coatings.

No difference in metallurgy.
The reason given by RUGER, for the 7 vs 6 is,,, it moved the cylinder notches to a thicker place on the cylinder.

FWIW; Many gunsmiths at first were doing the 32hr to 327fm re-chamber. There are a bunch of them that don't anymore.

Is it safe??? I have yet to see a blown up 32hr cylinder.

I wanted to do it, but then asked myself WHY?, WHAT are you really going to accomplish?

NO SUCH A THING,,, BUT RUGER ONLY INFO HERE.

You can load a 32hr with all the H110/296 as the case will hold, ~12.5-13 gr. USE a 85 or 100gr XTP and set it off with a SRP. They are zippy.
I found that in my 32's,,, 11 grains is the most accurate…. BY FAR
Back to 32 vs 327, there both 32's what are you really wanting to do? Burn more powder for maybe 200fps.
Me,,, buy a Single Seven, or even a few of em. No need to ream the 32-327. Your 32 RUGER will do all you want,,, just a few fps slower.

Even a 327 Double Action SP-101… that I mostly shoot 32hr in, just because it is pleasant.

Wished you lived closer, we would go shoot both and trust me,,, I'm willing to bet you will prefer the 32hr loaded to 11gr as mentioned above.

11 grains of H110 was my goal with powder coated 100 gr RNFP bullets. I saw mention of that load on other forums. Now I feel comfortable after hearing your experiences with it. I even saw that grain loading with up to 117 grain cast bullets. Great information since most data doesn't even mention H110 for 32 H&R Magnum.
