Sig recall, or is this a joke?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Some people just can't joke about anything...why does something this stupid have to be serious? Is there no common sense left anywhere?

I was not attempting to disparage you. My daughter carries an epi pen. I was only trying to point out that while it seems stupid, like posting a "contains peanuts" on a jar of nuts there is a good reason for the warnings.

It is probably real. In all honesty it probably has more to do with the grown ups than the kids. There is a woman I work with sometimes that I keep in contact with on occasion. She recently told me that her toddler granddaughter had swallowed one of the lithium button cell batteries. It has been about a year and a half. The child is still alive but has more medical problems than I can remember. I'm not sure what happened, I think someone had left it laying around. A careless moment can have dire consequences. I'm not saying an optic should be recalled because of this but people should be careful to protect their children. Toddlers have to be watched very closely.

Years ago "Reader's Digest" had an article about stupid product warnings. The one that has stuck with me for decades is one from a "Swedish chainsaw" (likely Husqvarna): Do not attempt to stop chain with hands or genitals.

Maytag has washers called "Pet Pro" that have special filters to trap pet hair. The manual has a line that says, "Pet pro modifier is intended for removing pet hair from clothes. Do not put pets into the washer."

When I sold tools I had a customer ask me about removing the retractable blade guard. When I asked why he said, "So I can grab the blade to stop it." He wasn't joking.

I don't think he is trying to disparage your humor, but I hope you don't make your living at comedy. Watching someone pop an epi pen and still struggle for breath after emptying a trash can that had peanut hulls puts that whole ha-ha-ha in a different light. There is room for common sense and common courtesy in this world.
OMG...that means trash cans need a warning "May contain nut, milk, etc residue"

No trash cans don't need warning labels.

It does mean I don't eat peanuts at my desk and put the hulls in the trash. The custodian is a personal friend that I wasn't aware had a peanut allergy. I wouldn't cause her harm for any reason. It is OK to look out for folks yeah? Having an allergy doesn't make you an idiot, a cry-baby, a millenial, a whiner, a liberal or well you fill in the blank with whomever you like to pass judgement on. Having an allergy just means that things other folks take for granted can take your life, so I think it is good to watch out for those folks as best we can.

I carry antacids for this reason, right next to my backup 33 round mag for my G26 cause it only has 10 rounds. A guy can't be to careful if he expects to get out of this world alive.

The recall is true. Just Google it and you can read about it from multiple sources not just Newsweek.

I might add that it does seem silly until children start dying because of it. Sig would then be sued for millions and lose the case hands down. Since all the red dots will probably not be recovered Sig could be sued successfully even years in the future if one of the red dots which was not returned caused a child's death. People are impulse buyers and one of these recalled Red Dots could sit in a person's home for years still new in the box until a child finds it and dies from it.

Newsweek contacted SIG Sauer via email on Sunday for comment.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC) has announced that global firearms company SIG Sauer has issued a nationwide recall of approximately 230,000 ROMEO5 Red Dot Sights due to non-compliance with federal safety regulations regarding button cell batteries.

I'm still going to have to quote another member here... "We are doomed!" if a company has to recall 230,000 items because one kid swallowed a battery and chocked on it then think of all the items we have around the house that need to be recalled for one reason or another. A goodly number of years ago a small child fell over in a five gallon bucket of water and drowned..... seems our government spent a couple million dollars doing research on how to modify buckets so they would be safer and finally came up with buckets need a label on them warning folks about this....
