Service - Six Barrel Logo

My recently purchased Service - Six has a mark on the barrel that I have not seen on Rugers before. It is model SDA 84, Cal. 38 Spcl. Serial number 151-39045. Can any of the DA pros help me on this ?

I have several six D/A with that stamp.
I'll have to dig in the safe to see which.

Hi Sam,

My 3" Stainless Police Service Six .357 Magnum has a similar logo, except where yours looks like a reversed capital R backed up against a capital P inside a circle, mine is a reversed capital P backed up against a capital R inside a circle. :?: I had noticed it but didn't wonder about it. Now I do. I'm interested as well.

I'm pretty certain that's the Newport Factory's Proof Mark, Gentlemen.

Yes, that is a proofmark from Newport, found on all -Six series DA barrels.

Sometimes above or below the address rollmark on the short barrels, usually to the right on the longer barrels. But always near the frame. Often not stamped precisely.

my Security Six has the same mark.

And a certain Hawkeye we once had, sn X6. Thought it strange that it had a Newport proof, but right there it was!
