I have recently purchased 2 GSRs and looking for advise on the power, brand and model of scope to put on them. Anyone had any successes or failures that they would care to share.
Thanks Bob aka Rugerman58

anything made by leupold. they offer eer scopes also. lifetime warranty, broad availability, excellent optics. you cant go wrong with them. you can pay a lot more, but you don't really get more for your purpose. choose a vx2 or vx3 and you are going to be happy.

Here's a review of the GSR. If you go to the main page, you can find several scopes he reviews by installing them on the GSR.

I understand the difference between an EER rifle scope and a handgun scope, but a Weaver 2.5 to 8X handgun scope works for me. I'm tall and use all 3 stock spacers so that may help. Using Burris QD rings puts the scope's rear bell a credit card width above the rail. A "Cheekeeze" elevator puts my eye perfectly in line with the scope.

I went traditional with my mounting, using a regular scope after trying the forward mount. I have a Burris 3X9 Signature series scope.
I've had great luck with Burris.

Lateck,

You do not specify whether you want a Scout Scope or a traditional optic. On my GSR I have both; a Weaver 4x28 Classic Scout Scope and a Weaver Grand Slam 4.75x40. Both are fixed power and both return to zero when remounted on the rifle.

The Weaver Scout Scope is on the rifle most of the time. I find it absolutely perfect on the GSR for general use and goofing around on the range. 4x is about right and there is no need to fiddle with the power ring on a variable. I keep it sighted for 147 gr. FMJ ammo. Here is the Weaver 4x Scout:

I do use the standard 4.75x (sadly discontinued), sighted for hunting ammo. on the rifle during the fall hunting season for a few weeks, but most of the time the rifle has the Scout Scope and iron sights installed.

Wow! 14.5 ounces. Thats pretty heavy for a 4x scope. But, I suppose mounted in the "scout" forward position, it does not make the rifle buttstock heavy. What is the "all up" weight of your GSR with the scout scope on it?

Actually the scope only weighs about 7 ounces. The weight is listed incorrectly on the Midway site. It's a nice, light scope.
