Scope or Red Dot for Ruger PC 9 Carbine?

At my eye doctor about 2 years ago he literally had no good suggestions for a 'compromise' lens to help with something to get me away from my normal progressives I wear for up close and distance to allow me to get in a set of good range eye wear.
I just decided to wear plain protective lenses and deal with it. I've noticed now while learning scopes recently with my 22lr its much easier to shoot with a scope. Things seem crisp enough that I'm on target fairly well.
I've heard there might be a specialist in my area that could help on a range prescription. I've just not invested in the time (or funds) to do this. Last year I got a red dot to try on my 22lr pistol and went back to open sights as I was having trouble with the dot. Your comment is reminding me of seeking a corrective lens for range and maybe I should get back to that search first. I'd love to see front sights more clearly!

I am VERY far sighted with an acute astigmatism and light sensitivity. Had a lazy eye, wore a patch as a child, etc.
My vision is still 20/20 corrected.
Maybe I’ve been lucky but I’ve never had a problem shooting while wearing my bifocals.
Seems to me a local optometrist could help you a bunch.

On a 9mm I'd probably lean towards a 1x prism, but even with my astigmatism I can hold a inch @ 25 yards with a red dot which is good enough for my AR-9 and it's purpose. A red dot for me looks like a bunch of grapes, but there is one grape that is brighter than the rest and that is what I aim with. Not ideal, but I prefer the speed and lightweight of the red dot on a CQB gun.

I am using a 1x SLX Primary Arms with green ACSS reticle for 9MM, and I back that up with a Holosun 3x magnifier. Very pleased.
On a PC9, a red dot would take some effort to install. With the adapters required, I don't think it's worth the effort
If you're really talking the newer PCC in 9mm or .40, with a rail, then a red dot would be a piece of cake.
I put one on my PCC and it works slick. My astigmatism still causes me to see a red worm instead of a nice clean dot, but even putting that red worm on my intended target, causes me to hit the target, very effectively. So as long as your intended target is larger than the red dot, it's a viable choice.

black rifle has a Aimpoint on it and the other one has the Holosum HS503G, in that picture you can see i have the sight mounted all the way to the rear , i was just playing around with different spots to see which I like better , it ended up being moved all the way forward on the rail

Several good quality dot optics install with a single 30mm ring so any Ruger type 30mm ring would suffice. Again, proper eye relief should be considered. The 'prism' scopes I have experience with have a relatively short eye relief which may be difficult to meet on the PC9.

I have a Ruger PC9 and absolutely love it. I use in in our men's league for the PCC class. I went with a Romeo 5 red dot knowing the 9 is limited. I used the higher mounts to co-witness with the iron sites which works well. It is very accurate, eats any bullet I pour or load for it from 124 -153.
I am 69, wear bifocals so red dots are a friendly companion. My optometrist measured me for shooting glasses and asked me if I wanted to see the target, front site, or rear site - choose one because our respective cannot focus on all three. Thus the beauty of red dots.
To further complicate things, I am right handed and left eye dominant. I shoot scopes and open sights with my right eye. A pistol with a red dot uses my left eye. I have to think about it when I am.shooting in league. The dot is perfectly round with my left eye and a squiggly line with my right. I live with it.
Check out the entry level Holsons on Amazon. They have long battery life and shake awake features for $154. I believe the modules are 403R but don't quote me.

I think a lot of folks forget how fast the weight adds up, when you're attaching stuff to a firearm. Add a sling (get a nice one), add an optic (with the bullet-proof steel rings/bases, and why not some extra magnification), add a light (just in case), get some extra mags (the steel ones will last forever), and it's got a threaded muzzle, so better get a quality brake or flash suppressor.
Why not? As I once saw it phrased on an AR forum, "ounces count", because (before you know it) you've added enough ounces here and there, that you've added a pound or two or three to the weapon. It's amazing how much weight you can save, just by paying attention to the little things, and comparing weights on competing items.
And the PCC isn't exactly light to start with. I started mine out with a compact Japanese 2-7x scope (I liked it!), but it seemed a bit heavy; then I tried a compact red dot (liked that better!); and now I'm back to the iron sights, which I like best of all.
As always, IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc., etc.

This makes me ask again... Are you using a PC9 or a PCC? Since the PC9 is a different firearm than the current PCC, I just wonder how folks are mounting their red dots to a PC9 without a rail. The options of a ring-mounted red dot are somewhat limited.

I went with the Burris Fastfire 3. It does what it’s supposed to do, small, lightweight, not expensive and not made in china. I like it.

When I first purchased my Ruger PC 9 I had on hand a Leupold 2.5 scope with German reticle installed by Leupold's Custom Shop and it worked out quite well. That bold vertical sharp pointed post really stands out and quick on target. Have now on the carbine a Sig #5 red dot and magnifier and can also use the irons on the rifle quite easily, good combination for me. I do indeed like the Ruger Carbine and find it to be very handy to use, good piece of kit.
And I'll ask again...
I keep reading folks comments of their PC9. Are there that many still in circulation? They haven't been made since 2006.
Or are you guys really speaking of the PCC?
They are not the same guns, and have different features. And since I own both, I like reading experiences with both.

I feel your pain WAYNO ….. they’re not making the distinction between the two and makes info here hard to follow.

A 9mm? A red dot is in order!
Under 100yds red dot all day. Faster and easier to hit than you can even imagine. A 1-4x wouldn't be bad if you're going for 100+yds
