Scope mount for Mini 14

I have a green dot mounted on the rail forward of the action (long eye relief). But, I am moving to a 1x4 Vortex scope. Where is your scope mounted? Any issues with ejection of shell casings if I mount it in a closer, more traditional location? Thanks in advance

I use Ruger #4 30mm rings.
Work perfect with the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6. Yes, sometimes the brass hits the turret cover but not bad.
Brass does not get damaged and it just scratches the turret cover.
You can go a size taller with the rings to cure it.
I know you said 1-4, but the 1-6 is no bigger in size, but the the extra 2X
is a big plus.
