A school district in Pennsylvania has placed a 5-gllon bucket of river rocks in each classroom closet to use against an attacker. This is addition to strengthening classroom doors, and training in lockdown procedure.

While this may seem silly to some, it shows a shift from "wait to be shot" to "attack with everything" as advised by a number of security consultants, and as such is welcome.

That means they'll be practicing rock throwing in PE Class right?
Or do they wait for Geology Class?

"Notice how the slate pieces fly thru the air, while the larger rocks just spin end over end."

They don't want guns, or armed teachers,, but allow students with rocks to become the protectors?

I fully agree we need folks willing to be the protectors,,, but use the proper tool for the job.

So that's where that saying " as smart as a box of rocks" came from!

So...little Johnny whacks the shooter but then takes a dozen rocks in the back of the head because half the class can't hit the broadside of the barn from the inside.

Well I'm sure that somebody will point out how dangerous rocks are. Oddly, I've had several rocks sitting on my desk and other places for years, and not one of them has jumped up and smacked me in the head.

Just for the heck of it, suppose a box of rocks sizeable enough to throw and do damage is available to students being gunned down.

How many will have the courage to get out from their desks and start throwing...?

Few, is my guess.

My other guess is this idea was thought up by someone with a double digit I.Q......

"National Rock Association"?
It had to be a teacher or administrator to come up with this dumb
idea. He will tell the kids, "Throw Rocks" that will scare the shooter.
Imagine when the shooter ignores the rocks and commences to
kill the kids.

BTW, the MSM dropped this one like a hot potato!

Earlier this year, I saw a newspaper headline re: the onslaught of coyotes in Rye, NY (a VERY liberal and very rich town.... but obviously, not very bright); it said: "Rye to try scaring coyotes".... I swear to God,l that is what it said..... They also said '...not to go out at night...'. You gotta love these liberals.......

Hopefully they won't stock up on these. It would unfair to the shooter.

I can see his point and objective, after having gone through this not too long ago here in Chardon, Ohio any form of distraction, can be used and be of an advantage, better than trying to distract by throwing a pencil, pen or a book, ever try to throw a book and be able to HIT anything???....like conservative said above, it is still a matter of having the proper frame of mind ,so to be prepared in any sort of way , just may help...kinda like was taught years ago to women walking alone at night, out to their car , and to hold the car key in between their fingers, and the fist but still tough to get a woman to push a key into an attackers eye socket, need the proper state of mind and know and willing ness to do SOMETHING, yes, ANYTHING, this is NOT a joke folks.... :(
we were taught, trained and went through such exercises many years ago, in case of nuclear attack, guess many of you are NOT old enough to REMEMBER..........
yep, just like our Boy Scout years, BE PREPARED......

Hold on now. What will happen if little Jimmy or Janie picks up a rock out of the bucket and beans poor little Joey. They will then have to put a locking lid on the bucket. Who's going to have the key?

And of course, Joey's folks will sue the school and the rock thrower. Then when the rocks are really needed and no one can get to the key, the parents will sue for having the bucket locked. Hmm, politics (read stupidity) as usual.

Yeah, they got rocks alright.... In their head..

Liberals really are dumb asses.. Not even good breeding stock..

They now say that they are going beyond rocks. Look here: https://www.yahoo.com/gma/school-district-armed-teachers-rocks-increasing-security-media-094104100--abc-news-topstories.html

Ok. Doesn't say what this "armed security" will entail. A couple mall ninjas? Rent a cops? What?

Who knows? Perhaps slingshot for the rocks. If someone is coming at me with a gun I seriously doubt that I will be heading for the 'corner rock bucket' to gather something to defend myself. If I am unarmed and was not close enough to an armed person to hit them with something very large and very heavy I am going to working on "plan B" and 'getting out of Dodge'.
