Sardines and Green Beans

Sardines are OK.....but I love anchovies much more right out of the can and of course on pizza. Bigger the better, load my slice up! I didn't know I liked them until I tried them on my first deployment. AOC's wife would send him a care package and load it with cans of anchovies, rolled with a caper. He gave me one and I have been hooked ever since.....one of my favorite snacks is a trisket, slab of cream cheese, jalepeno pepper, and a anchovy. You can do the same by replacing the trisket with a dove breast.....yum yum yum!

I found a jar of whole anchovies at a Chinese grocery store. Very different from the rolled up fillets in a can.

You can find some crazy stuff in a Chinese grocery store.

Personally, I like the smoked sardines. Can eat the whole can of them with some sour dough bread.

I would never buy them, but I don't mind canned and smoked sardines.

But, many years ago, we had dinner at my Wife's Grandparents house. They were both marvelous Italian cooks and it was almost always a treat to eat their wonderful meals.
I say almost always, as this one time, they served anchovy spaghetti. I was cordial and raved over this food, but it was gross. And I'm sorry when I think there was ever a time that I didn't completely enjoy their amazing and loving cookery.

Pizza just ain't right without anchovy filets here and there. Not too many, just enough.

I will eat sardines and pilchards if that is all there is but prefer herrings, mackerel, and just about any other fish in a can.

I've tried anchovies on pizza. It's not bad, and of course, anchovies are an ingredient in a proper Cesar's Salad Dressing.

In Bulgaria on the Black Sea Coast, they have all these cafe's that serve beer with deep fried and salted anchovies. They are just absolutely delicious. And the beer is pretty darn good too. The best thing to do at night in the summer.

Bobby flay uses anchovies as ingredients from time to time. He calls them the bacon of the ocean.

He also says "anchovies, your friends love them, they don't know it, but they love them."

I also learned to love Sardines from my Day. First had them on a fishing trip with Crackers.
They are in fact one of the worlds healthiest foods. Rich in Protein, calcium and the Omega 3's Rock Stars, I make sure I get the one's with the bone in. Much richer in calcium.
Love a sardine sandwich with muster and onion. Mixed with eggs and salads or right out of the can with hot sauce. . Any yes, the Chinese stores have frozen Sardines and Anchovies. I am lucky in that I live on the Virginia Coast and Fresh Fish is always available. And do not get me started on OYSTERS. A gift from God!
I personally will look for canned sardines with low sodium. I get these sent to me on schedule. I use my own preferred extra Virgin Olive oil.
