I shot my friends the other day, it was a nice looking piece.
BUT I HATED THE TRIGGER !
it seemed super long/slow and it just was not a comfortable shooting gun. any one else here have that feeling?

But I also shot his GP100(357mag, 6") and it was great.
I think im in love!

The 642 is double action only. Were you shooting both guns double action?

i shot the GP100 DA a few times, then s/a the rest.
i know their apples to oranges but i figured the S&W would be a little nicer to shoot.

IMO, the 642 is not representative of what people talk about when speaking of a "S&W revolver". I had one, for a short while, and was less than impressed. Not even in the same league as my model 60. In fact, the experience sort of soured me on modern S&W revolvers.

Try a 686. My dad has had one for 20 years, and it just gets better with age.

(I still like my GP100 with an action job a lot more, though!)

The GP100 is a great gun but will have to be slicked up a bit. Actually my Police Service Six 4 inch has a better action than my GP100. I have seen S&Ws with a terrible triggers. Rugers too. I have a S&W M66 that has the best trigger action I have ever had. This includes my M10. Every gun will be different. I would get the one that feels the best.

Good luck,

I like the 642 and have carried one since 1996.(CWP) I can hit with it at longer distances. But you've got to knuckle down and hold it steady for the follow through. The Gp100 is way to heavy for a pocket carry piece. My $0.02

Sold a 442 today, that long 12 pound trigger wasn't for me, but other say that you want a heavy trigger on a defensive gun so as not to have a AD and at the moment of truth you'll not notice it anyway.

IMHO the older M-36's and 7's are way better than the newer models.

So far as the GP-100 you can't go wrong just pick the barrel length you want and you will own a fine revolver.

My 5' 2", 100lb wife can shoot her LCR like crazy. I struggle to keep up with her from the 10yd range at the club. The trigger pull is way better than my 638 had so I bought an LCR too. She's not too shabby with the .45 too. These LCR's seem to be great so far, just over 500 rds each and no problems so far.
