Run up the bidding

Nothing like being obvious to try to run up bidding. Was looking at a revolver on Gunbroker and checked the 'bid history'. The same individual bid three times without anyone else bidding then, one person placed a bid, and the individual came back and placed two more bids. Up until I checked the 'history' I was interested. Now I will just watch.

Ok I looked at it. here is the order and what happened.

Also, you can't bump the bid if you are on top. It only ups your auto bid.

This is the chronological order.

Edit- I'm going to add $ to make it clearer

Starting bid that shows publicly on screen is $5
lot 45Auto bid x ***************************up to $25 Screen shows $5 to everyone looking
ivagatorUnder bid -lot 45 auto bid was higher $10 Screen shows $11 to everyone looking
ivagatorunder bid - tried again lot 45 auto bid was higher $15 Screen shows $16 to everyone looking
ivagatorunder bid - tried again lot 45 auto bid was higher $23 Screen shows $24 to everyone looking
ivagatorFinally beat lot 45's auto bid $30 Screen shows $30 to everyone looking
Uncljjnew man on top $35 Screen shows $35 to everyone looking
ivagatorgot back on top $40 ETC...
rjn2472next up top $45
jmak918next up top $50
rjn2472back on top $55

nope that's how it works with auto bidding , some one puts in their max bid but auto bid only bids the amount it takes to put them on top , if some one else wants to take top bid or find out how high the first guys bid is they have to keep upping their bid until they over take the guy that has the highest bid , at which point the first guy can up their bid again or they can just walk away and it can keep going that way until the time runs out

Yeah, I could auto bid my max on a 10 day auction, go on a weeks vacation & auto bid is taking care of my bid whether I'm there or not.
Not complicated when ya get on to it. Took me a while to trust it, but where I play, it seem legit.

My guess is that ivagator made a proxy bid of X amount of dollars.
Then another bidder made a bid , but ivagtor's proxy bid was higher. So he got the bid.
This continued until someone outbid ivagator.

I've seen shill bidding, and a lot of NR guys bidding stuff up. I had an item on GB a couple years ago that I had to relist twice because of NR no-pay bidders. I know there was no shill bidding because it was MY listing, guys just bidding on stuff with no intention or means of paying. The GB 15 minute rule is a good thing in my opinion, if you really need more aggravation in your life bid on ebay and watch 3 bids hit in the last 2 seconds of the auction.

When I see someone bidding multiple times I feel like they are wanting to win at any price- sorta makes me look elsewhere. But I've also done the same hoping to "mark my territory". Sometimes it works, mostly it doesn't.

Pretty funny- I was watching that one too. I like keeping an eye on the ones they start cheap, just in case.

Yeah those "bidding wars" are really something. Wonder what my S&W CS-9 would go for if somebody just had to have it! I might be shocked.

I tried upping the bid on a benefit auction when I was still over on the Sig Forum.... was for sure the pistol would sell for over $1000 and so I upped the bid twice then the next day discovered I owned it. he good news is it is my one Safe Queen.. I take her out about once a month an fondle her:

My cs-9 is going nowhere. It's on my hip as I type. I have cs-40 and 45 in the safe. A trifecta!
That's the way I feel. Bought it in 99 cause I was missing my old Model 39. Just what I was looking for. Too bad I sold that 39 cause only paid $125 in 74
