Seen a very nice rifle today with very small safe marks on it. No box but a beautiful rifle that I am seriously considering adding to the armory.
What would be a good price? First RS I have personally had a chance at.

Thanks in advance!

I know that sounds high, but it's probably not out of line. I paid a little more than that for an RS (not a flatbolt) in .22-250 a while back - another one you don't see every day, and it had exceptional wood. Within some measure of reason, I've quit worrying about price so much. If I really want it and am not likely to see another one at any price, I'm probably going to go ahead and buy it. It's just money, going down in value every day. Guns are typically not decreasing in value...

The .257 Roberts in the ST is actually seen more often than an RS in .257. The gun you looked at, was it set up for Ruger's rings.?

I think mine is a round top (too lazy right now to go look lol) and boy do I like it. I would be hard pressed not to buy another one if I ran across it and I had the money.

Edit:

.257 Roberts is a GREAT cartridge!
I agree, I have a M700 Classic in 257 and love it. Excited to put this one in the stable as well. I like the 257R so well I bought a 257 Weatherby MKIV a couple months ago and haven't had the time to work up a load for it yet. With factory TTSX it shoots decent but not like the M700 does. That being said me and Weatherby Rifles have never had a love affair though it seems I always have one in my safe. After getting rid of the two 30-378's that I thought were going to be the cat's pajamas after shooting one quite a bit on a hunt in Utah, I swore them off. I'm a sucker for anything 338 so I bought a TacMark in 338-378. Finally accumulated enough brass for a lifetime but haven't started loading for it yet either. Damn work gets in the way of the important things!

Hi if it is a roundtop ( takes weaver style rings } it was an non cataloged gun if so i sold one 10 years ago for about $1000

Gramps

If that is sighted with a 22" barrel that is a rare one. I have been looking for one
If i remember the ST 257 Roberts only came in one barrel length 24 inches measured from the bolt face I still have one and just measured it I could be wrong so dont hold me to it

Since we're talking about the 257 Roberts, maybe someone can tell me what model I have.
It's a tang safety Model 77. It's a round top action with Weaver bases, a fairly heavy 24" barrel (.625) at the muzzle. About 4.5" from the face of the receiver there are 2 holes drilled, tapped, and plugged. I always assumed these were for an old school scope base. Serial number is 70-98xxx.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mike
