I think there's a short action 77 boat paddle stock laying in the local pawn shop for $100

Been there 6 months …. Maybe a year

I took the boat paddle off my mkII stainless back in the day. They were putting on laminate socks on all the ones right after the paddles were discontinued and I didn't like those either because they were heavy and I don't like the look. What I did was traded for a high grade walnut stock off a blued gun and made my stainless/walnut gun which Ruger didn't offer at the time. I think I gave my paddle stock and $30 for my Walnut. I still think I got a good deal. My 30-06 will shoot 3 shot groups from a cold barrel with all shots touching at 100 yards consistently with Remington factory 150 gr corelokts or my 4064 hand loads. That's my lifetime big game keeper. What more could I want?

Ruger Skelton was Red's brother.

If you hunt where you need a rifle to maintain zero in widely varying humidity and temperature, you need a synthetic stock. If you're a Ruger fan, you know the best factory synthetic stock ever made was the Zytel boat paddle stock. I have a few originals and a custom 77/357 and a custom 375 Ruger with an Alaska Arms coffin box floor plate to hold an extra round down.

Then there's the collectors. Some folks have a healthy obsession with having one of everything. I've got one foot in the door for this category as I prefer SS BPs with sights.
