I have a Single Six Blackhawk 22LR. I was wondering what the differences are between my gun and that same gun only in 22LR Magnium. Is it just the cylinder? Or is the whole gun engineered differently? If it is just the cylinder, can you swop it out to a Magnimun?

Yes, the only difference is the cylinder.
When you buy these pistols brand new they come with both cylinders. Sometimes when bought used they do not.
This is an Old Gun. It was my Grandfather's uncle's weapon, so it is at least 69 years old. It only came with the 22LR cylinder. So If I buy a Magnimum Cylinder it should work?

Yes, you just need a magnum cylinder appropriate for an Old Model Single Six.

Welcome to the Forum....yessir ,good info above as it cannot be BOTH ways, its either a 'Blackhawk" centerfire revolver with a larger frame, or as you say the left side of the revolver below the cylinder is rollmarked what you said above "a Single Six" quessing its an old model with three screws in the frame as you said it was not marked "New Model Single Six" which uses two pins in the frame,,,,,,,,pictures would be great, both of ther box end and the left side of the revolver....will help us tell you what you want to know....... (y) ;)

"at least 69 years old"
It most likely would not be a convertible, and a MAGNUM Cylinder would be a no go.
The barrel ID was smaller.
Post your Serial Number#, you can XX the last 2 digits. This will get you some more accurate info.

-OR-

A fairly easy way to determine if a Magnum would be safe.
Use the shank of a 7/32 drill bit as a Pin gauge.
If it go's in your good,,,
if it does not go in,,,
it's meant for 22 LR/L/S only.

MAGNUM CYLINDER:
Can and will it work, YES!
Just not designed for it!😳
Just buy some CCI Velocitor.

As for the Box saying "Blackhawk"
Sounds like you have a Single Six in a Blackhawk box. Wrong Box for the Single Six, but there are others that will probably trade you for the correct box.
Or sell the Blackhawk box and buy more ammo!😁

As you can see by the posts above,, a box marked "Single-Six Blackhawk" would be a first. As a long time collector,, (as are a few others above,) NONE of us have ever seen, nor heard of such a box. We POLITELY believe you are a bit mistaken about something on the box.
IF,,, IF,, you do have such a box,, you could easily purchase a few guns with the sale of just that box.

However,, an easy way to determine if you could add a ,22 Magnum cylinder to the gun would be to look at the serial number. If the number is higher than 150000 then yes,, you could add a ,22 magnum cylinder safely.

We hear occasionally about Single Six flattops too so ……devil is in the details and proper identifications

Seems to me that recently (in the last few years), there was a Single-Six that was (incorrectly, IMHO) being referred to as a "Blackhawk Single-Six."

I can't remember whether it was on Ruger's site, or a distributor's site. Either way, I recall thinking that it was a misnomer, and shouldn't have been identified that way, but… there it was.

IIRC, it was a "Distributor Exclusive" stainless steel Single-Six, 6.5" barrel, and Bisley grip frame.

Does this sound familiar, to anyone else?

Took this OP 15 years to post three times in less than two hours and it was a doozy......guess he figured nobody here was going to eventually "buy" a Single Six Blackhawk 22 magnimum.....or is it magnimun? ....even with a unicorn box.....if it were posted yesterday I would have taken it as an Aprils Fools joke.

Maybe a hacked account testing the waters?
