Hey, Single Six Enthusiast's,

Ever hear about a Single Six with the 9-1/ Barrel?
Any thoughts on this....
What is the Collectability (if original)?

My favorite haunt on the way home from work has it.
$389 at my favorite Gun Store, First Stop Gun & Coin
701 Main St, Rapid City, South Dakota.

To me it's weird, but to some else, may like/need.

I tried to buy two of them new this year and both had quality issues. I think the long barrels are always more "rare" than the medium lengths, but at least the new ones are still just shooters.

Here's a pair of stainless 22s. Got a pair of old models and a blued new model around here someplace.

Kinda like the long barrel guns....

Mark @ First Stop usually has fair prices on his guns.

Dennis.

Welcome to the Forum!
You didn't give enough details,, is it a NM,, an OM,, box, papers etc. They are good guns,, but a lot of things are to be factored in before you buy!

Hello again,

The 9-1/2 Bbl Single Six 22LR first impression is it appears to be in
good condition, maybe 95%, some good honest holster wear.

The finish is Blued. The gun is chambered for 22 Long Rifle.
The cylinder is fluted.
It is an Old Model (OM) with three screws. Base pin has 3 grooves.
Ejector housing Steel? Ejector rod button is small with serrations.
Has a beveled Flat Top (noticed that right away because of my fondness
of Flat Top Revolver's).
Rear Sight is drift Left/Right, Front Sight is Dove Tailed.
Grip's are Wood. Hammer polished old style.
Price is reasonable at $389.

Yes, Mark and Mike have always been reasonable and very fair with me.
They always make me feel like at home and make sure "Have you been taken
care of?".

First Stop Guns & Coin, is my favorite Gun Shop.
Mark and Mike have thousands of Guns, from Rare, Expensive, to common
reasonable priced. Also they sell/collect/trade/buy Coins.

Whoa! Too many inconsistencies in your description!

Steel housing? Then the the gun is pre '63. Serrated ejector button? They were deleted from production back in '56 but the 9-1/2" guns didn't appear until '59. Dovetailed front sight? Not on a production Ruger Single-Six. Polished hammer? Not on a production Single-Six. You didn't mention what grip frame is on the gun..... XR-3 or XR3-RED.

Yes, I've been in 1st. Stop many, many times. The boys are indeed some of the "good guys".

One thing left out is the serial number. We could narrow down the date on such an animal from that. Plus,, if there is a question about it,, a call to Ruger would give you the correct model info,, and ship date. it may have a custom barrel by your description,, but who knows? A call to Ruger may be in order. As noted by Flatgate,, a few inconsistencies which raise a few flags!

Ok, that barrel appears to be correct,, but the front sight is NOT. Plus,, the stocks are of a later vintage,, (silver eagles,) than a serreted ejector rod button type. It looks like someone has been doing some parts swapping etc on this gun. That & some odd gunsmithing.

It's a late issue RSS9X with period correct "Squashed Chicken" grips....

One of the employes in that shop is a Ruger Collector and if that gun would have been a "nice one" we'd have NEVER seen it.........

NO SIR !!! FIRST STOP GUN has no connection whatsoever with JACK FIRST who now has dropped the sales of guns and gone deeply into the gun parts and gunsmithing business.

No, different place. Jack First is more about hard to find parts and gun repairs.
They did had a nice gun shop there at one time but the last time I took a gun there for repair the store side was all but gone. They're not in a good location for retail.

Thank you all, for your discussion on the Ruger Old Model
(OM) Single Six 22Long Rifle Revolver with 9-1/2 Barrel.

I am not going to buy it.

I forgot, Jim at First Stop is a hugh, hugh Ruger Collector,
and if it was not gone by now, its not worth it. First Omen.

There are to many inconsistencies, this is why I shy away
from buying Collector Guns, unless I know the immediate
history and do some researching. Second Omen.

I will just stick to buying brand new Guns that interest me
and that will be Collector Guns down the road.

Again, Thank you all, and be careful out there collecting Guns.
