Ruger RXM?

Help Support Ruger Forum:

I wouldn't plan on having a need to defend myself with a handgun in a situation where a 100 yard shot was necessary. I sure wouldn't mind having a pistol that I believed was capable of doing it though. I haven't shot my Max 9 at anything like that range but I did recently put a red dot on it & I shoot more accurately with the dot than without. I wouldn't expect to need to use a pistol on a threat at 30 or 40 yards either but if I recall correctly there was a church shooting in Texas sometime back where a person on the church security team did exactly that. He stopped the shooter dead in his tracks.
If you look at mine I use foam blocks so I don't have to look for the dot or the sights. It's just like shimming a shotgun stock. If it fits it hits naturally and instinctively.

My first 9mm was a Ruger SR9C Limited Edition in DLC. It was a good gun. I now have a Shield and 6 Sigs. I have always avoided Glock because it felt like you were holding a 2X4. The RMX is, in my opinion, an uglier Glock. I was intrigued by all the features for the price but wanted to compare it with the Echelon Compact before spending money on yet another gun. The Echelon is ambi but is kind of snappy.
I'm hoping Magpul steps up to the G20/21 size frame!!! I'm kicking myself for not getting the Poly 80's when they were available!!!

Its really not that difficult, especially for those of us old Glock owners who have been performing this task for decades. However, I will add that installing an extended slide stop, which is an inexpensive part, makes a big difference...especially with old gnarled hands like mine. but YMMV
I don't find it difficult, but until broken in a pain on the fingertips. I have a Taurus TH-40 with the same takedown mechanism and it's the gun I hate breaking down the most and I have LCPs and a Security 9 that take either a flat head screwdriver or similar device to remove the takedown pin. I'd prefer the Smith and Wesson or Springfield wide lever or the much maligned Taurus GX4 keychain tool. The slim little stiff switch that you have to pull down is just very uncomfortable and any function that is uncomfortable is just unnecessary to me.

Just received my Feb '25 issue of Guns & Ammo, and it has a nice review of the RXM. Very interesting.

Same for the March issue of Shooting Times. Approaches the thing from a slightly different angle.

I guess I'm just out of the loop with you guys who find taking the slide off a Glock so easy... or maybe I'm just too clumsy... but it might have to be with me spending a decade or so taking the slide off a Ruger P series pistol, (you did have to push that ejector thing in the mag well down first and keep it down when putting the slide back). Then, one day out of a whim, I bought a Sig P226......... maybe there is a reason Germany invaded Austria with little to no trouble in 1938.

Seems like that guy has some strong bias against Glock. He told of the trouble disassembling the Glock, but didn't seem to have any difficulty in doing it? Seems it took him slightly longer to disassemble the 226. I have Glocks and I have a SIG P226 and M18. All are easy and come apart with ease. None easier than the other. That said, I like my plain Jane as issued P226 the most out of them all, but disassembly plays no part in that decision as it's a non factor.

Being a Army Ranger that guy should be able to endure anything without complaint right? :ROFLMAO:

Only thing I dislike about removing the Glock slide is the need to pull the trigger. It's not hard to do, but given a missed round in the chamber it's just asking for an unexpected discharge. It's not required in other guns to my knowledge.

Yeah, I know, but still . . .

Of course some of us have spent 50 years lowering the hammer without a decocker. The Safety is between your ears 🤣😂🤣😂

I picked the RXM last week Put 250 rds. through it with no issues. Used the 2 Magpul magazines and 2 Glock 19 magazines. I was never a Glock fan. Didn't like the the bump on the backstreet or the finger groves on the front strap. I'm a 1911 and SIG shooter. Out of the box the trigger is better than a Glock trigger. No where close to my Nighthawk's trigger but not bad for a striker gun at the price point it is. HK and Walther are better but cost more. I like the grip frame angle, stippling, under cut trigger guard, metal sights and red dot ready. I like it. It gets new handgun shooter into a quality firearm a a great price. A range near me sells everyone they get in. Glocks are very reliable and so will the RXM.

With you 100%. I believe the difficulty with taking the slide off a Glock is that you have to maintain a fixed position of the slide, under spring pressure, while manipulating a two finger release, also under spring pressure. It's the spring pressure fighting against both motions that make it difficult for some.

I will agree that Sig is the easiest, most well thought out procedure. I'm a HK guy- but even they require the removal of the slide release pin while the slide is held in position under spring pressure.

One thing I have never understood by Glock, is the fact that in all their years they never saw the need to under cut the insane trigger guard.

No need to do that, after all Glocks are "perfection." I find it odd that there's been five iterations of "perfection." Maybe they are Jeffersonian and going for "more perfect."

Just installed the Tango Down Vickers Tactical Slide Racker (GSR-03) to my RXM.
Fits like a glove and the older hands appreciate the added leverage.
Have the rxm and bought gsr-03. I'm unable to take the slide cover plate off. How do you take it off. I thought it would come off like a glock. I would definitely appreciate any help
