Don't have an answer for you but was wondering if the RST4-S is Ruger speak or just made up?
Also known as RST-4S. It is a catalog reference/ model number for the production Stainless Standard w/4.75" bbl pistol, in the same pattern as previous Standard models, the RST-4 and RST-6. Ruger STandard 4" and 6" barrel. The S = stainless.

17-00012 was probably in the Walt Sych collection of #12 subscription guns sold at least ten years ago.

Probably unattainable then if the collection sold and stayed complete.

It was a shot in the dark. Was hoping to find a consecutive serial to 17-00013. #12 would be nice, but 17-00014 would work too. ;)

I understand what the letters mean, but I've never seen the designation for a stainless RST documented anywhere.

Here's some documentation. A Letter Of Authenticity from Ruger, plus a few boxes that the stainless Standard pistols came in from the factory. The later shipments had a bar code label with the designation printed on it.

Thank you! That is what I was looking for. Waiting for my letter.

I've become so accustomed to going to the internet for everything that I sometimes forget to check my own library.

articruger... that's neat!!! Your 17-03378 was shipped 20 years after the model was released.
It has been said that after the RST4S came out, when black marketers were selling the guns at multiples over their MSRP, that WBR got fed up with the practice and kept up to 1,600 of the model in the warehouse so nobody could make all that extra $ off of him!!!
At least 600 went to a Friends of NRA event in 2003 and others were turned loose through the years as well, including one that WBR personally gave to Mikhail Kalishnakov on his visit to the Ruger factory.
