First, the disclaimer: I have no interest in or relationship to Taccom (taccom3g.com) other than as a satisfied customer so this isn't an ad, just a report on a useful accessory.
Taccom now offers a short Picatinny rail that replaces the rear sight on the Ruger PC Carbine and allows mounting many red dot sights directly on the barrel. It will accept most short red dots (Vortex Venom/Viper, Burris FFIII, Leupold DP Pro, etc. and some shorter tube-type sights) and uses the factory rear sight bolts to install. The cost is very reasonable at about $20.
The advantage, as I see it, is the zero can't change from removing and reinstalling the take down barrel assembly. I just installed one on my PC Carbine and fitted my Vortex Venom on it. It fit perfectly, seems very secure and the dot is very easy and fast to pick up as the rifle is shouldered.
