I'm a handgun rookie and this is a basic question. I want to draw my P95 from a holster with a chambered round. Is this the correct sequence regarding the safety:

Safety on
Insert magazine
Safety off
Rack slide to chamber round
Safety on to decock
Safety off
Holster pistol

Thanks.

Just leave the safety on when you drop the slide and the hammer will fall----take the safety off and put it in the holster---CAREFULLY.

Thanks for the reply.

Isn't it cocked after you drop the slide? I'd like it decocked in the holster.

If you leave the safety on when you rack the slide it will be decocked. The hammer only stays back when the safety is off.

Other guys are right. When the saftey is on the trigger bar is disengaged (pushed down) out of engagement with the sear so the hammer can't be cocked when you rack the slide with saftey engaged. Plus with the saftey engaged the firing pin is drawn into the slide out of reach from the hammer, plus the firing pin block is there as an extra saftey. Saftey decock on a Beretta 92 operates the same way. Great design.

those semis with safeties sure confuse me... is a lot simpler when it is a decock only.

I agree... I have the safety version.. wish it was decock... the long double action pull is plenty of safety in my opinion

I agree with you on that. The p95s DA pull feels harder than any revolver I've had. My sister actually had a hard time pulling the trigger in DA. I don't mind the saftey because it is so hard to inadvertantly engage it. Plus, with the saftey you can chamber a round without having to decock it.
