Ruger OM Blackhawk front sight

Help Support Ruger Forum:

Years ago when pouring front sights were popular. We did a similar thing with a plastic kids toothbrush, shiney red were the best color to use. When polished they almost glowed. To make it easy we used an old 60° dovetail cutter to cut the notch. Drilled a couple of holes in the sight. Mill cut toothbrush. File fit and used 5 minute epoxy to secure it in a thin cushion of adhesive. If you fit the site into the new dovetail without any clearance the site would fracture while shooting.

I wondered what kept happening to my toothbrushes........
After burning brain cells I cannot afford, I decided to go the easy route. Brownell's sells a kit for $55.00, more or less, and I will have it if or when the sight falls out. Almost sacrilegious on an old model BH, may save my pennies and send it to Ruger later to get it restored to original.

good luck as most "pressed in " inserts, no matter what th e material can and will shoot loose and fall out.... the ones in the "kits" like done on the S&W usually stay in much better unless they get bumped, knocked out by mishandling......:rolleyes:;)
CZ uses fiber rods in many of their pistols. Loc-Tite can be applied to keep them in place. But, left to themselves, fiber tends to work loose and fall out. Dawson Precision sells fiber stick (red & green; maybe yellow/orange). Fiber also comes in different diameter. Brownells sells fiber also and I use a Brownells video to learn how to replace the fiber -- it's easy to do.

when done correctly it is ,more or less "permanent", its the use and abuse that boogers them,, hell S&W has put the red ramps in for as long as I can remember and have used them and NEVER had one of theirs "fall" out...I know folks that have our red ramps still to this day in their Rugers..........:rolleyes:;)

I just ordered a kit from Amazon. 13 oz. epoxy resin kit. # CAT-744550. Has 20 different colors, mixing sticks and cups. No release agent. Can probably use Rigg's Gun Grease, light coat. I will let you know how it works. Price is right. Drill a couple holes and be ready to go.
