Ruger No3 22 Hornet scope problem

Help Support Ruger Forum:

A followup on this as I did order the "tall" front scope base from Numrich referenced in above post. It appears Numrich does indeed offer the correct front base for the No. 3 rifle; a big "but hold on" as I ordered two and got two different sizes... One was the correct No. 3, and the other is the 1V front base as you will see in the photos below. So it appears Numrich has a bin with mixed front sight bases and it may be a bit of a crap shoot to see which you would get when ordered. In photos below the 1V is on top with a "2" cast in underside. The No. 3 base has a "1" cast in underside. I confirmed measurements posted by Gramps51 and G2 in this and previous threads for the No. 3 base.

Weaver #85 and #86 with a note saying the front base may need to be modified and back base may need to be shimmed for perfect alignment I have these on two #3s and they work just fine right out of the package maybe im just lucky

Thank you for the help. I found an auction on FleaBay that closed with no bidders before I saw it. I messaged the seller and he was nice enough to re-list it for me, Now I have bases on the way. I should have rings already.
I would also gladly try Ruger rings/mounts/bases If some are for sale.
I also have a Win M70 XTR in 7mm RM that is a problem. The XTR has holes drilled off true so far that I have never found a scope with enough windage adjustment. I am told there are mounts with enough adjustment to correct for that, but I have no clue what to buy. Suggestions?

I have used Weaver Grand Slam rings for this issue- they are windage adjustable. I don't believe Weaver offers them any longer, but I see NOS rings sold on eBay. There are also other windage adjustable rings by other makers with which you should be able to compensate for the misalignment of the mounting screw holes.

Leupold I believe used to sell bases that were for custom applications. These were basically blanks with I seem to remember the top dovetail machining done.

Or, maybe a good gunsmith could move the base or bases (2 piece) slightly and re-drill your receiver to allow proper scope mounting?

This is not a case of the holes being drilled improperly. As you can see in Celler 71s post above, it is a case of the front base not being the correct height.

I was referring to the M70 problem.
