Hey gang, purchased a new Vaquero in .45 Colt and took it apart to give it a thorough cleaning and notice that the hammer has a spring and plunger towards the bottom and was wondering what function does that do ? I just want to become more educated on the gun and it's operation. Thank you .

For info. the length of the plunger and/or the shape and configuration of the latch affect the timing. There is a modification wherein you can lengthen the plunger to prevent the cylinder latch from prematurely contacting the cylinder during cylinder rotation.

Your answer is well described above.

There's a spring inside there as well. Once clean,, a small drop of oil on the plunger,, while holding the hammer upside down,, will allow the oil to seep into the hole. You don't need a lot,,, just a very small amount to prevent problems. I put oil in,, allow it to seep in,, then push the plunger several times,,, wiping off any excess that comes out.
