I have couple other Ruger's one is the SBH 10.5" barrel in 44 Magnum and other one 30 Caliber Carbine round with 7.5" barrel and both are accurate out to 50 yards but will say the 44 magnum even with the 10.5" barrel still has a fair amount of muzzle jump when fired. I normally carry a Glock 19X for self-protection and it is a fine handgun but believe this new Ruger would also serve that purpose. It is stainless steel and the overall fit and finish of this little gem is excellent. Well realize the 45 Long Colt is an ancient caliber but any magnum caliber in this short barrel handgun would definitely be a "handfull" and the 45 Long Colt has a very successful history. Shopping for an appropriate holster to carry it, but with winter these days making me wear heavier coats the little gem would fit nicely in one of the pockets. I will go to the range in a day or so and see how well it shoots. Be careful if you see one of these gems in your local gun store ask to see it the quality of the gun will definitely be obvious to you.

Went to the range yesterday and fired the New Vaquero revolver at 15 yard target with one hand. Did hit the target but somewhat low on the placement of the shots. Reading the manual it clearly states that the front sight blade is tall and can be filed to suit your self which would bring the rounds down and you would eventually find the right height for the front blade sight to give you bullet impacts wherever suits you. I will take a file with me for the next range visit. As for the actual shooting of the "birds head" style frame and moderate recoil of the 45 Long Colt cartridge the combination makes for comfortable shooting and accurate to boot.

Your lucky to have the revolver shoot low. I have a New Vaquero .44 Special Sheriff and it shoots high. Note that you'll not want to load your .45 Colt New Vaquero with Ruger Only Loads (not that you would in the little gun). It is only good up to around 23K psi (Tier 2 loads). Just an FYI. The .45 Colt is my go to cartridge for woods walking.

Oh, before filing (and do in small increments), makes sure the load and bullet weight are what you want to shoot generally. Ie. your favorite load combination.

Enjoy!

I think a 3¾" BHG Vaquero in 45 Colt is a good choice for a SD handgun.

I have it in 45 ACP and carry a spare 10-round 1911 mag for it. It's easy to thumb the rounds into the loading gate.
I had to read that 3 times to comprehend what you're doing. Actually, that's a pretty good idea!

IMHO: A 4 5/8`s inch barreled Ruger Vaquero makes a darn fine Woods Walking Around Hand Gun also. The 45 LC has been my all time favorite Handgun Cartridge since I was a young kid. And I am real fond of Lever Action Rifles in 45 LC also. And I am 81 yrs old now. So I guess You could call Me some what prejudges. Or just plain old & ((( SENILE ))). Just my 2 cents worth.
