Ruger MkIII Hunter - won’t dry fire, can’t disassemble cause hammer is cocked.

You were able to pull the bolt all the way back to cock the gun?

Will the bolt move now?

Hammer spring assembly gets stuck on removal -- What does this mean?
You can flip the lever but the housing won't come out?
Can you flip the lever?
bolt works normally, mainspring lever flips but it only rocks out about 1/2".

Well.. after a 7 minute discussion, i stumped the Ruger folks and they've asked me to ship it in for repair. Next stop, Fedex.
Their thought is that i broke one of the safetys, and despite all being assembled and set correctly (safety off, magazine inserted, the sear won't release and trigger won't move to the rear…

Something I have had to do before when things didn't line up right upon reassembly. Grab gun in hand and slam down barrel muzzle into a piece of hardwood as hard as you can. Try it, it just may solve your problem.

....thus they HAD to come out with the Mark IV, to help all us 'geniuses' ( and I still ain't bought a single one.....)...... nor got rid of my only "gifted" MK III Comp slabside, we keep as a "reminder"........

Does the safety have any resistance?

Yep
I have all three of those guns and have taken them completely apart many, many times to clean and oil them. You cant put them back together wrong like the Ops Ruger. Even if he sends it back to Ruger and they fix it, he may have the same problem the next time he takes the bloody thing apart again.

I sure hope that they don't just fix it and send it back, but give you an actual reason it did this. I have problems that are gone without explanations.
Please keep us all in the loop.

Give this a shot. It worked in my situation (may not apply in yours):

If the main spring housing won't come out point the gun muzzle down. While pulling the trigger, hit the bolt with a mallet a few times.

Doesn't the MK iii have an additional lock on the mainspring housing?? Takes a key to set and release?? Pain in the a$$

I have a Std, a MK1, a Mk2, a Mk 3 and a MK4. Eons ago, after many thousand rounds, I took the Std apart to clean it. It WAS a pita. After a few minutes, I had to step back and READ THE DIRECTIONS. Then it went together like a dream. The funny part was that when it WAS apart, it really didn't need much cleaning.

I see now there are Utubes that simplify the process for those that don't want to READ the Owner's Manual.

Anywhoot, I have never taken the 1, 2 or 3 apart. Don't think I need to. I DID take the 4 apart just to see how it worked.

Lots of people say the Mk2 is the best of the lot. But way back when I used the Mk1 for bullseye and I was quite happy with the results.

I know some shooters who have NEVER taken their old Mark I apart ,ever, they only soak it in kerosene ( or mineral spirits) blow it out with an air hose, spray oil it down, and blow off the excess with an air hose and put the grips back on, swab out the bore and life goes on,,,,and on...............:rolleyes:;)

....and I wish I had a nickel for every one that I have put back together for folks at the gun shows in all these years since the early 1960s.......:sneaky:

My brother was so embarrassed he took his to a gunsmith in a baggie instead if asking me for help. Funny part - the smith is one of my best friends and called me to ask why I didn't just do it for him.
