The only thing I can say is: I developed a serious dislike for the 'hooked' front sight on some of these pistols after the sight tore the lining out of a couple of expensive holsters.

The 22/45 has a grip design of a shape more like a 1911. The other MK series guns use Bill's original grip design. The Government Target model has more of a bull barrel,, while the Target model has a tapered barrel. The 22/45 uses different magazines than the original design,, due to the angle differences.

You can go online to Ruger's website & look at the MKIV's in the same models,, and see the differences.

and the 22/45 is plastic....vs a metal grip frame on the MK 1 - 4

There are some very expensive aftermarket metal grip frames out there....but Ruger doesn't sell them individually

HayMike,

My question is why are you asking? What are you trying to determine? Your question asks for a comparison of a generic 22/45 to two models of the steel frame pistols. There are several different models of each based mostly, but not necessarily totally, on what barrel/receiver it has.

BTW, if you find a MKIII Government Target Model (not to be confused with the Competition Target Model) BUY IT! Ruger only made a few hundred of them.
