Rifle is being offered to me. Serial number is 791-35568. Condition is 95%. Can anyone help me with whether or not this rifle is rare or scarce? I checked my Reference of Ruger Firearms and it states highest known SN id 791-02816 and lists it as scarce. Thoughts? Dave

"Rare or scarce" only because it's not a popular caliber. Many more 30-06 and 270 were made which are similar in performance.

Blued and walnut I'd say uncommon but not rare or scarce. I've seen a fair number over the years. My MkII 280 is number 792-47049...but it's a stainless , black laminate RBBZ model...that you can classify as rare or scarce. The stainless and brown laminate sporter models were around for a few years also but Id guess in a lot fewer numbers than the blued and walnut models. No matter what though if it's in nice shape and the price is right I'd snag that 280!
