Took apart my M-77 ruger tang safety put it back together and when I retract the bolt a lug on the bottom pushes the safety back. If I put the safety off with the bolt back it will not get past the safety unless I push it forward up the ramp then it barely clears it.
the tang is in the recess all the way even a little below the wood. tang screw is tight and sticking up a little into the groove for the bolt.
took it apart 10 times using different tightening sequences. still exactly the same. naturally it did not hit the safety until I took it apart. What did I do wrong?

Take the stock back off and turn the sliding safety button half way around.
yes I will try that being the raised part of the safety would be lower on the ramp. the raised part of the safety is not centered so I put the larger part to the back thinking more room for the thumb to push it off. thanks a lot for the tip
