I recently got a Ruger LC380/LC9. I was surprised to discover that the serial number is actually on the metal insert and not ont he polymer grip, so very similar to the Beretta Apx. I see that there's different colored polymer grips for the Ruger, does anyone know a place to get these polymer grips and just swap the metal insert, since that's the serialized part?

Welcome to the forum.

You should maybe check with your attorney before altering the serial number.
So the polymer grip on the LC9 just has a hole so that the serial number shows but the serial number is not on the polymer grip like a Glock, it's on the metal insert like a Sig P365 or a Beretta APX; so there wouldn't be any altering of anything.

They may have been testing the LC9 design when they were developing the MAX 9. I personally like the LC9 profile better than the MAX 9. I wish they would have made a double stack LC9..

If the metal insert is embedded in the grip and would require cutting the plastic to remove, removing it would be considered defacing the serial number under federal law.

If that's not the case, I'd call Ruger about parts availability.
